Nothing Was The Same
Nothing was the Same
Winner of the 2012 Grammy for Best Rap Album, Drake recently release this album called Nothing Was The Same. The argument truly is, is he the best rapper out there?
Aubrey Drake Graham is a solo artist from Toronto, Ontario, who raps under the name Drake. He was born on September 24, 1986. His genre of music is hip-hop and rap. He is one of the most versatile singers out there because he writes his music, sings and raps very well. His songs are usually about his past struggles and love.
The album recording began in 2012 and was released on September 20, 2013 by Young Money Entertainment, Cash Money Records and Republic Records. This album sets itself apart from his other two albums because Drake makes an attempt to go back in time and try to regain his humble ways. His previous albums are about sex, alcohol, partying, drugs; the fast life, the life any up and coming rapper wants. “What that album art is to me, is the fact that this is my most clear, concise thoughts from now, and my best recollection of then.” Drake here is explaining what his attempt was at making this album, to recollect his past feelings.
This is by far one of my favourite albums of all time because Drake’s voice is very unique and the story behind the album is incredible. I read through the lyrics and I could connect all the dots. He tells a story through music, which is rare to see these days. His hit song “Started From The Bottom” is one of his most famous songs. The song is very entertaining and popular, but the lyrics truly tell a story of his humble beginnings about how his mother raised him and how he was very poor. In another song, he raps about his father, who didn’t really support him because he was always in jail.
I will always remember this album because he decided to change his storyline and kept his entertainment factor in the music. He use to rap about the party life and now he raps about his mistakes and how he learnt from his mistakes. Another thing that set him apart from the other albums is the art of the album. The cover is amazing. One picture is of him as a baby with an afro and a colm and the other with him now and his fresh haircuts and his gold chain. The album is about him getting back to his old self and being grateful for what he’s been through.
Drake said in an interview that this album felt different than the other ones and he went back and listened to his old albums and fixed the mistakes he made in the previous ones. I agree with Drake. This album was by far his best one because of the storyline and the lyrics were just amazing. A superb performance on his part. It felt like he put extra effort into making this album and dug deep to write the lyrics. I would give him 5 stars. Just outstanding.
