I chose the quote “I would suggest that if you were to put the TV in the classroom, it would blow the classroom to bits. The teaching processes would be completely transformed: It would be exactly like bringing the Trojan horse inside the walls of Troy.”
I think that this quote means that by bringing the TV into the classroom, the teaching process completely changes. Back before there were TV’s teachers had to teach using textbooks, chalkboards, and their own knowledge and experiences. But now with teachers using computers, smart boards, and TV’s. Now they can use these tools to teach and use other resources to help teach their students. I do agree with what McLuhan says in this quote, except for when he says, “It would be exactly like bringing the Trojan horse inside the walls of Troy.”
When he says that it seems like he means it in a negative way. But I see it as a good thing. By bringing the TV into the class it’s really opening up both the students and the teachers’ eyes to new things. I think overall by bringing the TV into the classroom it has a positive impact.
In media studies a lot of what we learn is from the TV. If we didn’t have computers or TV’s in class we wouldn’t be able to learn about what we learn about in class.
