Marshall McLuhan Quote

by S. L.
smart boardI choose quote “I would suggest that if you were to put the TV in the classroom, it would blow the classroom to bits. The teaching processes would be completely transformed: it would be exactly like bringing the Trojan horse inside the walls of Troy.” I thought this quote is better to understand than other quotes.

I thought this quote mean bad way because first I thought it could be good thing and it could help teaching processes but it says “it would be exactly like bringing the Trojan horse inside the walls of Troy.” I thought it may be negative in class and Trojan horse story was not a good thing. I agree with this quote but not with his point of view because Marshall McLuhan’s time period and my time period is different and also the society changed a lot. However, TV could distract studying in class if it turns on. If TV is in the class then some people are not pay attention in studying. Such as, when exam is closer, I do not want to study, any other things are better than studying and others are so easy to remember. In other way, I think TV is not just mean television and it could mean Media things and media things are not always good.
This quote is relating in media studies because the person who said this related in media. Also, television is related in to media and it could have benefits in media studies. However, this quote, the Trojan horse inside the walls of Troy mean could be same as put the TV in the media studies class. We already have television in class but also we have smart board. We can see most of it in smart board so maybe we do not need television but somehow television could be useful and helpful to us.
