Staind – Right Here

By Alyssa C.

When breaking this song and its music video into millions of tiny little pieces and analyzing each and every one, I can honestly say that there are so many more things to like than to dislike. The camera angles were mostly close ups, which seemed to have added an effect to the music video. Not to mention there were some parts that were edited to have a blue filter. Based on what I’ve learned in Media Studies 120, blue means calm, peaceful, and/or sad. The fading transitions added a nice emotional touch as well. There were other small things that made this song so pleasant to listen to, such as meaningful lyrics, the sound of the lead singer’s voice, how the instruments gradually got louder for the chorus, and the perfect lighting. Overall, the song was very emotional and relatable.

I don’t like to be “that person” who points out the flaws of songs or music videos. And to be completely honest, I didn’t originally dislike anything about either one. But after sitting here for a good half hour with the song on replay, I made myself dislike a couple things. The song seemed to have ended too quickly. I loved every bit of it, so it was quite disappointing to realize that the song is less than five minutes. Another little thing that I’ve noticed is that the lyrics “right here waiting” was repeated way too many times. Twelve times, to be exact. The chorus only rhymed because the lyrics of the chorus ended with “right here waiting” every single time.
