DOES ADVERTISING TODAY RELY TOO MUCH ON SEX AS AN ELEMENT OF PERSUASION?
Honestly I disagree. I mean, yes, sex is one of the most well known elements of persuasion (not to mention affection) but I think we over-analyze every ad that we are faced with. Oh, the ad has a girl and a beer bottle on it? Let’s just assume that she’s a prostitute and that she wants nothing but a cool, drunk, man.
DO SOME ADS CROSS THE LINE FROM GOOD TASTE?
We all have our opinions. And it really depends on how we’re affected by ads. Some ads such as alcohol and cigarettes seem to be directed to males more than females, making the females look like the lower gender that depends completely on men. Some ads seem to have hidden messages or accidental implications. For example, Charmin toilet paper has a mother bear with a bag of toilet paper and the father bear tries to grab it. She pulls away and says “Just enjoy it with your eyes.” She uses a breathy sexual voice. He says “Just one squeeze?” No further explanation needed.
