What is Cool?

Is cool a destination to arrive at, or a method of transportation? In your life span you will either fit in or not, but who defines what is “in” and what is not?
Who has the power to influence a generation on what to wear, and how to wear it? Urban dictionary defines it as “the best way to say something is neat-o, awesome, or swell. The phrase “cool” is very relaxed, never goes out of style”. Indeed it doesn’t, it’s a simple statement referring to what’s popular and accepted as the norm.

Who is Mr. Cool and how do we find him? Well that answer is simple enough. He is no body, but he is also everybody. Cool is a not destination, it’s a method of transportation. It is everything, from the way you talk to the way you walk. And all of this comes from the people and goes back to the people. We always look for the “newest” thing that’s going to come out; we find the newest things through advertisements. Who tell us to be cool, is us. We are studied and then glorified and put back into society through the media. Another way to change what is cool through time is by seeing what the trendsetters do, this happens when its time for change, and it’s a brutal cycle from there. The companies find this new “cool” thing, study it, advertise it and it starts all over again.

Cool is in every aspect and age in life. From high school all the way to the work place, cool is the person who is unofficially assigned leader, or cool person. And from there you just have to see what they do and copy it. Cool is the actions they do and they language they speak in. Cool is everything in pop culture and in fact cool doesn’t have to be “cool” is can just be something interesting amongst a group of friends or even just strangers.

In conclusion, cool is everything, and who tells us? We do. As human beings with a brain we are for the most part capable of distinguishing what is cool and what is not. Although all the ideas of what is “in” come from our society, and what is socially acceptable. Other cultures differ in what is cool. Cool is you, and cool is me, cool is the whole universe if we choose it should be.
